The Root

The first step to start something is to actually like it, be passionate about it. If that does not happen, it becomes work. Work that will slowly but surely become mundane and parasitic. Let it be something that you're naturally driven to do, instead of something that you think will earn you some money in the future. It's not a bad thing to think that way, it's just going to curb the chances you would be willing to take in that direction. You become a bit too careful of the steps you take. It's like giving a child a brand new pair of sneakers and then telling them that it's way too expensive and really cut a hole in the parents' pocket. Now the child will obviously be able to play wearing those shoes, but one part of their mind will always be occupied thinking about the shoe, which in turn curbs the whole purpose of those nice shoes.

This is what happens when we try to start something with the idea of it being perfect at the very beginning, we stall. At least I did, I can’t speak for everyone. The journey of doing something you love should not be marred by the relentless pursuit of perfection, which will end up making your endeavour a perpetual work in progress.

If you’re starting out doing something, start out as a beginner. Take it all in. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. A stupid idea is still an idea. See if it works, and you'll always be surprised by the results. Ken Petti correctly said, "A chance not taken is an opportunity missed."

This is a picture I took in Kalga, Himachal Pradesh. When I took it, I thought that this was going to be one of those pictures I could never put up or use anywhere. Little did I know, I just didn't have a context to use it with. but that’s a different story altogether.
